What is Mac 2010?
The Mayors Achievement Challenge (MAC) is an academic reward program that provides a series of motivational incentives and student support services for the Class of 2010 (current 9th graders). Sponsored by the Newark Mayor's Office, Newark Public Schools and Prudential Foundation, MAC aims to inspire students to reach their highest academic potential by acknowledging their educational accomplishments with incentives and rewards throughout high school.
How it works
The MAC Challenge is designed to motivate students to meet key benchmarks and goals established by the Newark Public Schools that are necessary to successfully graduate high school and advance to higher education and the workforce. Rewards are issued in connection with the NPS report card cycle beginning November 2006 and are based on the following criteria:
- Grades & credits accumulated
- Attendance & limited tardiness
- Demonstration of good character & conduct
Accumulated hours of community service and progress made overall in improvement of grades and attendance are also factors of consideration for the challenge.
Who's involved?
The MAC Challenge engages the entire community to support the achievement of the Class of 2010. However the initiative has three major partners that have support the challenge since its inception: Rewards
